New Release + 5 Star ARC Review ✻ Flash Point (The High Sierras #1) by Diane Benefiel

Flash Point (High Sierras 1)

Diane Benefiel

Reviewed by Jacqui
Once again Diane Benefiel has written a story that captured me from page 1. Her ability to tell a story that makes you want to keep reading is incredible. This time her story focuses on Emmaline Kincaid or Emma. She has just inherited her grandfather’s fishing resort. She has no idea what to do but vows to make it work. With a little elbow grease and the help of new friends, she starts rebuilding what her grandfather started and a place she has fond memories of. Unfortunately, someone in the small town of Hangman’s Loss has other ideas and is desperate to run her out of town.

But as every great story it needs a hot sheriff who can help keep her safe, and maybe fall in love with her. Everyone knows Chief Bradley Gallagher in Hangman’s Loss. He is a standup guy who will do just about anything for you. But when he meets Emma, his focus turns to one thing, keeping her safe and finding out who is trying to destroy her. Up for the challenge Chief Gallagher sticks close to Emma and will protect her at any cost. What he didn’t expect was to find the one person that completes him and makes solving this case even more important.

Diane Benefiel you blow me away every time I read one of your books. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Hangman’s Loss. Thank you for bringing us Emma and Brad’s story.

Reconsidering Her Options

Stalwart, honest, a stand-up guy – high praise, right? Wears his jeans just right, single, a catch – pretty much everyone in Hangman’s Loss, a quirky little town in the Eastern Sierras, adores the hell out of Police Chief Bradley Gallagher. Yet, new resident Emma Kincaid is determined to keep him at arm’s length, and with good reason. But vandalism, arson, and a violent attack have her rethinking her stance. Has someone from her past caught up with her, or is the escalating threat coming from within her newfound community? Sparks fly as Brad races against time to keep her safe, and passions combust when they join forces to combat the danger.

Okay, there was a cop out there and not all cops were bad.
That was rational. She wasn’t a kid again, in a patrol car paralyzed by terror.
Dread gripped her at the realization that, as much as she hated the idea, she
would have to trust this cop.

“I repeat, this is the police. Come out with your hands up.”

Bracing herself, she tried to speak but a dry throat made her voice inaudible.
A convulsive swallow, and she tried again. “I’m coming out.”
Cautious, she eased into the doorway. She pushed open the screen, grip tight on
the heavy flashlight, then hesitated, blinded by the powerful beam of his
light.
He stood in front of the porch, a shadow darker than the rest. “Stop. Lower
your flashlight to the floor.”
Emma ordered herself not to freak out. Crouching, she reluctantly set down her
only possible weapon. “This is my place. I can be here.” Even to her own ears,
her voice sounded tight with dread.
“We’ll figure that out.” When she’d risen again, he continued, “Put your hands
behind your head and come down the steps.”
Emma raised her arms, linking her fingers behind her head. Slowly she moved
forward. That voice kept whispering in the back of her mind. He could be a
rogue cop. He could rape and kill her, bury her body out in the woods somewhere
and no one would even know she was gone. If he made one wrong move, she’d take
her chances and run. Poised for flight, she couldn’t keep a hard shiver from
wracking her body.
“What’s your name?”
His voice had a low timbre that was somehow calming. They probably taught the
technique in cop school. She tried to see beyond the blinding light but
couldn’t make out his features. “My name is Emma, and this is my property.” She
paused. “Can I put my hands down?”
She’d never felt more vulnerable in her life when the cop ignored her question
and moved behind her. She tensed as he gripped her wrists with one warm hand
and conducted a quick pat down with the other. “Is there anyone with you?”
Her heart beating so hard it was a wonder she didn’t pass out. Emma conducted a
fast internal debate on whether to admit there was no one else, but realized
she had no choice. She was alone. “It’s just me.”
The unyielding presence behind her made her hyperaware. The creak of the
leather cop belt, the hiss of his radio, even the scuff of his boots on gravel
brought back frightening flashes of memory that served to reinforce that she
was at his mercy. And that this could go very, very badly for her. To the
depths of her soul, Emma hated feeling so vulnerable.
He released her clasped hands and moved to stand in front of her. Angling the
flashlight so it wasn’t shining directly in her face, he stood back, watchful.
A stillness settled over him. He stared at her, making her aware of the pull of
his gaze. After a long, arrested moment he appeared to gather himself.
“You can lower your hands now. Sit down on the steps.” He pulled the radio off
his belt, low voice reporting his location and situation, then strode back to
his vehicle to open the rear door.
Sinking onto the porch steps, Emma watched as he leaned inside to retrieve
something, then moved to the driver’s door to reach in and flip off the
headlights. His radio buzzed and he paused to respond. He had the sure,
economical movements of a supremely self-confident man.
The dome light of the SUV lit him from the side, showing a strong profile. His
eyes were on her but he was a good thirty feet away. He responded to the radio
and took his gaze off her to lean farther into the vehicle.
Watching him warily, Emma thought briefly, insanely, of running. She could do
it. Just slip into the darkness and find safety in the trees. But that would be
madness. So far he’d done nothing threatening, other than being a cop, and,
more importantly, she hadn’t done anything wrong. But having the legal right to
be here sure didn’t make her feel any safer.
“Don’t even think about it.”
Emma startled, looking up to find him staring at her across the distance.
Great, the cop was a mind reader.

After removing my shoes and putting my clothes in the hamper, I hop under the heated spray and try clearing my mind. It’s no use; I’m still picturing the glimmer of lust in Mel’s eyes from when I told her I wanted to put her over my knee. I want to smack that tight ass of hers until it’s pink and she’s begging me to fuck her.

Unlike earlier today, my cock is rock hard. My soaped-up fingers circle the tip of my dick, my pre-cum adding to the slickness. With my head against the tile wall, I work myself to the point of no return. Imagining Amelia’s pretty, pouty lips circling my dick and swallowing me down her throat is my undoing. My body trembles with the aftershocks of one of the best orgasms I’ve ever had. Getting myself off shouldn’t feel that good, but damn … it was like she was right here with me.

How am I letting this girl I don’t even know get under my skin? She’s bitchy, sarcastic, and undeniably sexy in the most obscure way. She’s not one iota my type, yet I can’t get her out of my head. I just need to sleep with her and get it out of my system. She seems like the kind of woman who can handle a one-night stand. And since she doesn’t like me or my band, I won’t have to worry about her turning into a clinger.

I’ve just wrapped my towel around my waist and cracked the bathroom door when I hear someone step into my room. No one comes in without knocking, ever. If it’s not her, it’s Belle, but one of them is about to get a surprise.

Rapidly flipping the light off, I open the door and pull the unsuspecting girl inside. “What the fuck?” she gasps.

It’s her.

“Fucking hell, Princess,” I growl. The room is dark and steamy, and before she can tell me to shove my Princess comment where the sun doesn’t shine, my mouth crashes against hers. As I wrap an arm around her waist and pull her closer, I weave the fingers of my free hand through her hair. Her scent is intoxicating, and as I slide my tongue across her lips, she opens to me. My heart pounds in my chest as our tongues meet for the first time. Her mouth tastes like heaven, but the two of us together could easily burn a path straight to hell.

Her body fits perfectly against mine, and as our tongues duel for control, she wraps her arms around me and releases her soft cries of pleasure against my mouth.

If another woman had ever kissed me like this, I would have given up my bachelorhood a long time ago.

She tugs my lip ring with her teeth, and it sends a jolt straight to my cock. I’m moaning just as much as she is, and when her body begins grinding against my dick, I slide my hand down her tight little ass, bringing us even closer together. I want her doggy style on my bed, and the thought alone practically takes me to my knees. Her gasp brings me back to the present as she abruptly pushes me away.

What the fuck?

“We can’t.” Her voice is a breathless whisper.

“Oh, Princess,” I say, placing her hand on my dick, “I’m pretty sure we can.”

She laughs, and it’s like music for my soul. With a laugh like that, I have to see her smile, so I flip on the light and she blinks rapidly. Oops, guess I didn’t exactly think that through, but oh well, it’s worth it because she’s still smiling and it looks damn good on her. Once her eyes focus, she takes me in. There isn’t an inch of my body her gaze doesn’t roam across. I know she said no, but when she licks her lips and bites down on her bottom lip, I know it’s her mind talking over her sex drive.

When her eyes land on my chest, the rapid rise and fall of hers becomes noticeable. This girl has a thing for my piercings. I’m tempted to drop my towel, if for no other reason than to see her lick those luscious lips of hers again. Too bad, she’s starting to come to her senses, I was enjoying the pheromone high between us.

With a regretful look, she speaks, “I’m sorry, but I can’t do this.”

“Your body says otherwise,” I counter, curious as hell to see how this is going to play out.

“Maybe it does, but I don’t think with my body anymore, I think with my mind. We can’t do this if I’m coming on tour with you.”

So she made her decision. All right, I’ll play her game … for now. I’ll deal with a temporary disappointment as long as I know I’ve got access to her for the next year and a half. I’ll talk to Noah about her tonight and tell him how I feel because if there’s one thing I know as easily as my own name, it’s that me and Princess are meant to be fuck buddies.

“All right. I’ve never had a woman turn me down before. I’m not sure I like it. It’s your call, Princess. You know where to find me if you change your mind.”

After Care by LB Dunbar

Reviewed by Jacqui

Love doesn’t care about age or health. Love is finding the one person who sees you for you, despite your saggy belly or age. For Edie Williams this all comes true while on a vacation with her kids in Hawaii. There she meets Tommy Carrigan, a gray haired, tattooed hunk of a man who seems out of her league. How wrong she was. One week with Tommy Carrigan and Edie feels alive again. He makes her feel and gives her some hot sex she never got from her ex. He showed her how to live again. He showed her what true love really is.

Tommy and Edie’s story is refreshing to read. LB Dunbar writes them as real people that some may be able to relate to. They aren’t perfect. They aren’t 20 somethings who don’t say what they want. They are mature (or somewhat mature) adults who have experienced life and are looking for someone who makes them feel wanted and special. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I loved everything about this book. The chemistry created for the couple by LB Dunbar is why her books are so incredible to read. She can draw you in with such an easy reading flow it’s hard to put her books down. I think I started to read slower so it wouldn’t end. I don’t know how many times I thank the author for her ability to tell stories that leave a memory. This is a book I will remember. So once again LB Dunbar, thank you for giving us Edie and Tommy and letting people know that over 40 is not a bad thing.

New Release + 5 Star ARC Review ✻ Winter Heat by Jennifer Lucia

Winter Heat – Jennifer Lucia

Reviewed by Jacqui

Jennifer Lucia has a new fan. This is my first read from her and I look forward to more from her. Winter Heat revolves around a criminal defense attorney Kelsey Jones whose life has been turned upside down by criminal who has pledged revenge for her role in him going to prison. Now the US Marshall office has sent in their best marshall, Liam Sullivan. No longer is Kelsey living her life as she planned. Suddenly she is Agnes, visiting a small town in New Hampshire with her “husband” Amos/Liam. Keeping a low profile isn’t easy when you are holed up in a small cabin with a gorgeous man who values his job. She needs to get out and away from the sexual tension that comes from living with Liam. But being exposed could threaten the life of everyone she loves, including Liam. When the chemistry between the two becomes too much, both of them ditch the rules and give into their desires.

Jennifer Lucia does an amazing job of slowly building up the relationship between Liam and Kelsey. But when it does happen, you can’t help but get caught up in their romance. When I started reading, I thought I had the ending figured out but Jennifer Lucia didn’t go the route I thought. It wasn’t predictable. I like that in a story. Congratulation Jennifer Lucia on the release of your latest book. Thank you for letting me read it.

Synopsis

She fought to keep a killer out of jail. Now she’s going to learn to be careful what you wish for…

Now there’s a serial killer on the loose who has vowed to find Kelsey and make her pay.

Enter U.S. Marshal Liam Sullivan. Humorless, professional- and unbelievably sexy.

Kelsey is thrust into the Witness Protection Program, posing as husband and wife with Liam in a remote cabin. He orders her around and she infuriates him, but they try to make the most of their situation. Can Kelsey and Liam keep it strictly professional or will they create winter heat?

New Release + 5 Star ARC Review ❤️ The Evolution of Us by Dee Kelly

The Evolution of Us  Dee Kelly

Reviewed by Jacqui

The last we read from Dee Kelly had most of us an emotional wreck. But no matter, I wouldn’t give up the chance to read her next work of art. The Evolution of Us is a story of never giving up on the one you truly love. Your true soulmate. The one who got away because you made a mistake. A mistake to own up to.

The story evolves around the relationship between Declan and Holly. As every great story, these two have their faithful sidekicks, Baxter and Sage who will make you laugh and wish they would each get Their own story. Altogether since they were fourteen, Declan and Holly seem like the perfect couple who are going to make their relationship into a fairy tale. The perfect life. That is until a comment overheard tears their perfect world apart. Now, two years later and neighbors, Declan will do what he can to win Holly’s heart again. He’s done everything to make her jealous, a revolving door of women, now it’s time to show her his heart is all in. Holly needs to open her heart and let out the secret that started all this.

I devoured this book as I do with any of Dee Kelly’s books. Fortunately this one didn’t leave me a blubbering mess but instead told a POV story of trying to take a wrong and make it a right. Declan feels more real to me. I for one am glad he is not the domineering alpha male but a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. A guy who can admit he made a mistake and jumped to conclusions. A guy madly in love with his one true love. I liked going back and forth between then and now. Watching their relationship evolve from gangly teenagers to mature adults and everything in between. It’s a definite love story that is on my top ten list. Dee Kelly, thank you for giving me happy tears this time and bringing us along for this incredible story.

Synopsis

They say most people meet the person they will marry while in high school. Balancing one another perfectly, Holly Ryan and Declan James were together through most of college—until their relationship blew up, leaving Declan with more questions than answers.

For the past two years, Declan has tried everything he can think of to earn Holly’s forgiveness, but even if he manages to help her let go of the past and give them another chance at happiness, she still has a secret. Not to mention, she can’t get over the revolving door of women he seems to have coming in and out of his apartment.

Declan is desperate to prove to Holly she’s the one for him and isn’t above using his celebrity status or enlisting the help of their friends to win her back.
All’s fair in love and war, right?

Reviewed by Jacqui

Redemption Island (Island Duet #1)

If you have ever read one of LB Dunbar’s books, you know her passion for romance, rock stars, and twisting classic tales into modern day romances. This isn’t one of those. This is a dark story surrounding the choices of two people, Tack and Juliet, two people who met under a horrific condition that will forever be a part of their lives. Beware, the island smells your fear.

Terrance Jackson Corbin IV also known as Tack came from a privileged life. The son of a billionaire he could have everything he wanted. When a fateful night at his friend Rick’s club finds him being accused of a heinous crime and the subsequent death of his friend, Tack is given the opportunity to live in solitary on an island to make peace with his decisions that night. Thinking this will be easy and good for him he is ushered off to a remote island with nothing but a tent and basic living essentials. One year he has to spend here. One year to clear him of what he had done. But what he finds on the island is the one person who shouldn’t be there, the one person that he hurt, the face he can’t forget.

Juliet Montmore has had everything taken away from her the night she chose to go to the third floor of the night club she worked at. But she needed the job and didn’t feel in danger. So when she came to the realization of what was happening, she took matters into her own hand, but not before her life would be permanently scarred. Her whole life has been a rocky one. Living with an uncle who didn’t want her and learning to take care of herself at a young age, she did what she could to protect herself. But when her boss Rick Fontaine took something without her consent, she took something from him in return. His life. Now she was spending a year on an island to think about her choice. Deemed as a “social experiment” she was set to see this thru. What she didn’t expect was to see the face that has haunted her since that night. A face she wants to hate. A face that could change everything.

This book was a story of redemption, forgiveness, and letting go. Finding yourself and the strength to move past what happened. Forgiving the ones who have wronged and in turn find love with the one you never thought you would see again. The story of Tack and Juliet was one I couldn’t put down. Their confessions, their fears, and their realization of what truly happened. Unfortunately not all realizations are what they seem. The ending will have you shaking your head and trying to turn the next page. Only there isn’t one. It’s one of those books that will constantly have you thinking about it and going back over the story in your head to see what you missed. I love books like this!! LB Dunbar, you know I love every book you write, but this one will stick with me for a long time and be one of my favorite books of this year. A book that had me thinking so much, I couldn’t put this review into words. Well done!! Now, if you could just get me the second book that would be great. Put me out of my own head of what is going to happen. Thank you LB Dunbar for once again reminding me why I am such a fan.

About the Author

Avid drinker of Coca-Cola, L.B. Dunbar loves the sweet things in life. Her affair with all things romantic began with her first book at the tender age of six: Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One can never forget her first! From there, the reading journey includes a deep love of fairy tales, medieval knights, regency debauchery, and alpha males. She loves a deep belly laugh and a strong hug. Occasionally, she has the energy of a Jack Russell terrier. Accused, yes, that’s the correct word, of having an over active imagination; to her benefit, such an imagination works well. Author of over a dozen novels, she’s created small town worlds, rock star mayhem, and MMA chaos. Her other duties in life include: mother to four growing children and wife to the one and only.

Make sure you are not reading this in bed at night while your significant other is sleeping. You will be laughing and will either shake the bed or be loud. This book is that entertaining and funny. It’s like reading the diary of a pregnant woman told in true form. If you are pregnant or never have been, BL Berry gives a comical insight to impending motherhood and the road that got her there.

Jeff was late for a flight. When he was that last evil person to get on the plane, you know the one that everyone scowls at because they are late, he chooses a middle seat next to the adorable Henley. Fumbling his way through a conversation with her that includes how well he is packed below (his suitcase in the underbelly) they exchange numbers. Fast forward to his brothers wedding, an empty ballroom, and a maintenance holding your Spanxx, and Henley finds herself pregnant. As she goes through all the joys of pregnancy, her relationship just goes stronger with Jeff. Jeff, along with Henley’s bff Tara, support her throughout the pregnancy including letting your boob be grabbed through a contraction. But no matter what, the love between Jeff and Henley is strong and easy going and is how relationships should be. Even when your boyfriend thinks you should have a natural pregnancy without drugs. Umm, just no.

BL Berry, you nailed it with this story! This book is definitely going to be one of my top reads for this year. Thank you for bringing us a story to make us laugh and love all at the same time.

This is the fourth book in the series and the stories just keep getting better and better. This is the first book I’ve read by this author. Looking forward to reading more of her work. I was hooked from the very beginning and read this in one sitting. You will fall in love with Knox and Erin. They had an instant chemistry.

When super-wealthy father of seven Colin Brannigan dies and leaves each of his sons a bequest, Knox Brannigan believes he scored big with his legacy—a vintage Indian motorcycle. He’s made a life out of rebelling against his father, but this time Knox is eager to take the machine for a spin up the Pacific coast. When it breaks down it means three days of loafing at a rundown surfside motel, but that means three nights of getting under the skin—and with hopes, the clothes—of the lovely but wary owner of the local yoga studio.

Erin Cassidy practices yoga to discipline her heart, mind, and body. But all three go wild in the presence of confident, charming, and much-too-handsome Knox Brannigan. She knows his type––he’s all about fun, flings, and never settling down. After being burned before, she set strict guidelines about the men she lets into her life. Knox, with his sexy smiles and laid-back attitude breaks every one of them. It’s only three days, she tells herself. If only they weren’t followed by those three steamy nights…

Knox has always been a man who takes his pleasures where and when he can find them and to hell with the rules. Yet when it comes to his feelings for Erin, he discovers he’s much more traditional than he ever imagined. It won’t take deep breathing or mindful meditation but only being in her arms to turn the rebel into a lover.

5 Star Review ☆ Hunter (7 Brides for 7 Brothers Book 3) by Melody Anne

Reviewed by Andrea

Hunter by Melody Anne is the third book in a seven book series. So far this is my favorite story in the series. Hunter and Becka have a past love history and met again after 10 years. The treasure hunt Hunter’s dad set up in his will started an adventure and a rekindling of a past love that never truly died. I love how Hunter brought out the real Becka instead of the uptight Rebecka she was trying to portray her self as.

When Hunter Brannigan loses his father and is sent a map, he doesn’t know what to think. Is it a joke? Was the old man going senile at the end? The attorney sending the map assures him the piece of paper was definitely from his father and he must follow the clues to find himself.

Hunter has been running from anything even remotely resembling responsibility for a very long time. He’s a world renowned Photo Journalist, traveling the seven continents in pursuit of the next great shot. He’s been in the heart of the trauma during war time, natural disasters, and life-altering moments, always on the other side of the lens, never getting emotionally involved. His father’s last wish for him is to put himself within the pictures he’s famous for.

Deciding to humor his father’s last request, he stumbles upon Rebekah Kingsley III, an uptight History Professor who desperately needs to let her hair down. Though he has his doubts she can get dirty long enough to help him, something about her won’t let him walk so easily this time. Will she be enough to make him settle down, or will he leave her with nothing but a picture of what could have been.

I love the love story between Josie and Gabe. He was a confirmed bachelor till he set eyes on the brilliantly smart Josie.  I loved that he wasn’t intimidated by her being a smart and independent woman.  Gabe’s dad really knew what he was doing when he left specific things in his will for each son. Can’t wait to read the next in this series

Meet the Brannigan brothers—seven sexy brothers who bring the heart and the heat! From bestselling authors Barbara Freethy, Ruth Cardello, Melody Anne, Christie Ridgway, Lynn Raye Harris, Roxanne St. Claire and JoAnn Ross comes a brand new contemporary romance family series: 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. You won’t want to miss a single one!

Gabe Brannigan is a Californian real estate mogul who is used to seeing property in terms of dollar signs. He’s ready to walk away from the deal until he meets the sexy, motorcycle-riding ranch caretaker. She’s brash and outspoken, rough around the edges. Definitely not his style, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting her.

Craving her.

Throwing all caution aside and deciding to have her.

Josephine Ashby has found the perfect place to hide until Mr. Sexy Eyes shows up and announces he is moving in.

A man who doesn’t believe in anything, finds himself believing in her.

But will it be enough?
