It was amazing 😀

One of my favorite lines from a movie is “Just keep swimming”. Swim through all your problems and over come them. That is what Ginger Scott brings to us in her new book Drummer Girl. The story of two teenagers battling through the secrets and darkness that has always been such a big part of their lives.
Arizona is a band nerd in high school. Her drumming skills have made her lead in the marching band but now they have caught the attention of someone else. The new kid on the street who happens to have a band and some real talent. Plus, he is very easy on the eyes.
Jessie just moved into a new house on a quiet street. He’s trying to dodge life and a waste of a father, a has been musician, by living his own life. Unfortunately, that life has caught up to him and now wants to exploit him. He lives for his own music and is surprised by the girl up the street when she bangs out a beat on the drums. He has a new drummer and eventually, a new girlfriend.
Ginger Scott brings a story of two people who have suffered tragedy in their young lives that has blurred over the years. This is not a teenage angsty story. It’s a beautiful story of two people who find each other and with that, the ability to heal their hearts and move forward together. A story of first loves and the ties that bind Ari and Jesse together. A story of following your dreams no matter what gets in your way. A story that reminds you to just keep swimming until you find the one you want to tread water with. Ginger Scott, thank you for bringing us this amazing book.

Drummer Girl
A mature YA/New Adult contemporary rock star romance by Ginger Scott

Arizona Wakefield was a beat without a melody. Living a half-breathing life in a half-finished neighborhood with parents who always wore half-hearted smiles, the high school senior only had one thing that let her color outside her family’s perfectly drawn lines—her drums.

Jesse Barringer was a song without a chorus. The son of a washed-up rock star who’s also one hell of a deadbeat dad, he was given two things from his father—musical genius and a genetic link to the bipolar disorder that drives him mad.

One night in a garage at the end of a cul-de-sac in the middle of a bankrupt California neighborhood, Jesse’s melody found Arizona’s rhythm. An angry boy with storm-colored eyes found a blonde angel in Doc Martens with missing lines in her own story. Where her rhythm stopped, his words took over, and together, they wrote one hell of a story.

** Drummer Girl is a mature YA/New Adult romance that touches on mental health, drug abuse and includes mature sexual situations.

EXCERPT:

Drummer Girl, Copyright Ginger Scott 2019“That’s the first time I’ve played that song. I like it. We should add it to our set,” he says, pulling the strap from around his neck before setting his guitar at the foot of his bed. “What do you think?”

He twists so our knees are touching and our shoulders are squared.
“I think you’re a showoff, one. And two…I totally think we should close with that at our gig. People love retro shit like that at shows.” I don’t really know what people like at shows because the only kinds I’ve ever been to have been for high school marching nerds or jazz geeks. I probably don’t even deserve to utter the word gig yet. I’m a gig virgin. I do know movies, though, and if this life was a movie, our band would close with that.
Jesse’s eyes linger on my face, making me warm.
“Okay then,” he says, finally. “And I’m not a showoff.”
His lips pucker with his smirk and mine follow suit until a laugh seeps through.
“You so are!” I shove at him playfully, and his hands wrap around my wrists and shove back gently but don’t let go.
“No, I’m a great example. That’s a totally different thing,” he says, pulling me toward his chest until my fingertips meet the hard surface of his pecs under a well-worn white T-shirt.
“I’m pretty sure it’s just a synonym for showoff how you’re using it. In fact, now you’re just being arrogant!” I gripe back through laughter, a wry smile playing at one side of my mouth. Jesse remains quiet, though. His head leaned a tick to the right. My lips vibrate with this sudden change in atmosphere, and without even helping myself, I bite my bottom lip. There is just enough light in the room to see these small things we’re doing, these…signs. At least, I’m giving a sign. I hope I’m not imagining Jesse’s.
At least three full breaths pass between us without words. I count mine, and I guess how many he takes because really, I can’t see much beyond the dark centers of his eyes and the top curl of his lip. I wait for him. Even though I’m dizzy and happy and excited, I don’t want to be eager and desperate. I wait for him to move closer…to do something.
I wish for him.
“Would it be okay if I kissed you now?”

5 Star ARC Review 🌺 Just An Illusion – Encore by D. Kelly

Reviewed by Jacqui

Words cannot even begin to describe how much I loved this book. I have been in a book hangover since I finished. The Illusion Series has made me laugh, cry, and absolutely know what true love is. Don’t plan on just picking up this book without reading the others. You can’t.  You need to read every incredible book to fully fall in love with Sawyer Weston.

Encore is written from Sawyer’s point of view. It relives some of the other books from the first time he fell in love with his brother’s wife Amelia or Mel as she is known. It brings us more backstory of the anguish he felt over falling for a girl that chose his twin brother Noah.   He could never do anything to hurt his brother and walking away from his brothers happiness with the girl he wants showed his true strength.  The story recounts the tragedy that fell on Sawyer and Amelia and how Sawyer coped with his sadness.   If you’ve read the other books, it gets more into the letters that Noah left for everyone. But the pure love Sawyer has for Amelia out shadows the promise his brother made him make. His love for Amelia goes so much deeper than anyone knew. I loved the way he and his story were written. I almost feel like they are family.   He is so much more than the man whore of Bastards and Dangerous.   The ending was absolutely brilliant and left me wanting more from these characters.   Do you hear me Dee Kelly?!   Don’t be done with these people yet.

Truly a beautiful story that was so well written. Once again Dee, you have blown me away with this story. Thank you for writing it.

We are thrilled to be bringing you the release of JUST AN ILLUSION – ENCORE by D. Kelly, the final book the Illusion series and the conclusion to Sawyer’s story. Make sure to grab your copy today!

About JUST AN ILLUSION – ENCORE

When tragedy strikes, Sawyer finds himself taking on more responsibility than he ever imagined. Can Sawyer remain the rock his family needs in their time of crisis? Or will he succumb to his deepest desires and fall in love with Amelia all over again?

Just an Illusion – Encore is the conclusion to Sawyer Weston’s story. Every thought, every feeling, are yours for the taking. Are you ready?

New Release + 5 Star ARC Review ☆ Playing by Heart by JB Salsbury

Reviewed by Jacqui

JB Salsbury, I want to live in your head when you’re writing!
Once again you kept me up late reading. And what a read it was!! I think I am going to have to take down my JT poster and replace it with Jesse Lee.

Jesse Lee has once again woken up with no memories of the past week. All he knows is he had cold water thrown at him and girls in his bed. He doesn’t see a problem here, but his manager and record company see a BIG problem with it.  Now he finds himself detoxing in a room at his brother’s house with a past painful memory staring at him. He has been given 90 days to get it together or he is done. Surprise Arizona is a lot different from Los Angeles. No glitz and glamour, just his brother Ben or Pastor Ben as he is known, an adorable little girl named Elliot, and an ordinary girl who volunteers for the church and takes care of Elliot. His ninety days is either going to kill him or make him look at things (and people) differently.

Bethany thought she had the love of her life. She is the marrying kind of girl and thought he was it. Now, she is without a car, (there may or may not have been a fire) and throws herself into volunteering at the church and taking care of the Pastor’s daughter. But a rude and crude addition to the house has her on edge. She avoids him as much as she can until what she mistakes for moans of pain turn out to be a whole different kind of moaning. Her avoidance is short lived when she is assigned to drive him around to meetings and deal with his overall grumpiness. It’s only ninety days of her life. Or maybe not.

This is a romantic story that doesn’t start out that way. Both are happy annoying each other, her with her singing and him with his constant focus on sex, but soon find themselves slowly working themselves into each others heart.

Thank you JB Salsbury for bringing us a story that will make others believe that enemies can become so much more.
BLURB

Jesse Lee is the worst!

He’s a multi-millionaire, triple-platinum-selling, Grammy-Award-winning man-slut—a worldly, self-indulgent heathen. I wouldn’t sleep with him if he were our last chance to ensure survival of the human race. The only reason I put up with him is because he’s my boss’s brother.

Whatsherface is one of those holier-than-thou types.

She’s bossy, has a horrific singing voice, and she’s so ordinary, she practically blends in with the eggshell-colored walls—the complete opposite of anyone I’d bang. The only reason I put up with her is because my career is on the line.

Playing by Heart is an enemies-to-lovers romance where opposites not only attract, they ignite.

I can’t wait to go to Ireland.

Star Crossed is the first in the series Cursed Hearts from Meg Anne and Jessica Wayne. The story follows Skye and Lucas as they are thrown together unexpectedly after crime scenes start popping up around their town.

Skye Giovanni is a seer. She has the ability to see peoples deaths. Her first vision happened when she was very young. It has scarred her for life and she makes it her mission to not let anyone into her life. That is until she meets Detective Lucas MacConnell at one of her art shows. Now she is pulled into visions surrounding Lucas and his sister. Now she is on the hunt with Lucas to find out who is targeting the people Skye has come to love. It’s a grim search for a Seer to take on but she can’t watch any more people die.

Lucas MacConnell was captivated by Skye when he saw her standing on the balcony outside an art show his sister dragged him to. When he puts down the artist and her craft, little does he realize he just insulted her. That won’t stop the detective from trying to get closer to the artist. In his quest for her attention, he finds out more about himself, mainly that he is a mythical being known as a Druid. His Irish background and stories from his grandfather now explain his ability to pick up on clues to solve a case. now he must solve all the murders before he becomes the next victim.

The story captivated me from the beginning.  Written by two different authors, the relationships between the characters keeps you wanting to read on. Both are fighting their abilities but know also they must work together to keep Lucas and his sister safe. Now, they must go to Ireland to see Lucas’ grandfather to learn more about his heritage and the abilities of a Druid. Pack your bags and get ready to go to Ireland in the next installment of this series. Thank you Meg Anne and Jessica Wayne for bringing us what looks to be an amazing series.

The stories have been there, they were just waiting for her to tell them.

Like any true SoCal native, Meg enjoys staying inside curled up with a good book and her cat Henry… or maybe that’s just her; sunburns hurt! You can convince Meg to buy just about anything if it’s covered in glitter or rhinestones, or make her laugh by sharing your favorite bad joke. New Release + 5 Star ARC Review ❤︎ Saint (Mercy Book 2) by JB Salsbury

Reviewed by Jacqui

Just so you know, Ghost Girl is the first book in this series and needs to be read first.

If ten stars were possible, this book would definitely deserve it. As it was said in the book, “Everything is a journey, a wild ride with constant surprises.” This story was a journey through wanting to save the one you love no matter what it means to you. A story with surprises that will make you cheer and then cry, but a good cry.
When Milo and Mercy head to Mexico, they think it will only be for a short time. But revenge is the only thing Milo sees. Finding the one who held Mercy captive for so long and getting justice for Mercy. The only problem is that Mercy has gone from one prison to another. Stuck in the compound of El Jefe, Milo’s father, Mercy wants to know where Milo goes every night. When she follows him one night, things go wrong immediately. Now Milo is in a race against time to find Mercy. Knowing his father does not approve, Milo goes against the demands of his father to find Mercy and it could mean his life in the LS. The LS hold onto his every move and he is willing to risk it all to let Mercy have a normal life. But a life that may not include him.

I can barely put into words the way I feel after reading this book. Mercy and Milo are characters so incredibly written you get lost easily lost in the story. At one point I felt like I was right there along with Milo and looking for Mercy. I was so caught up in the passion the two have for each other because the writing makes you feel that. The ending pulled at my heart and I wanted to slow down reading to make it last. But it had to end and there is no other way I would want to see the ending. It completely fits the characters of Mercy and Milo.
JB Salsbury, once again I am in awe of you and your talent for telling a story. Don’t stop doing what you do best. Thank you for bringing us Mercy and Milo and their beautiful story.

Synopsis

Milo sold his soul to the devil to save an angel.
Now he’s after revenge.

There are worse prisons than the lush estate of a notorious drug smuggler in Mexico. Mercy lives out her days alone and hidden from the world, but her sleep is riddled with nightmares of the muti and all the boys and girls just like her who weren’t lucky enough to get away.

If the people who kept her as a child are in Mexico, is it possible she could find them?

What starts as vigilante justice unravels a web of human trafficking deeper and darker than Milo and Mercy could’ve imagined. When she comes face-to-face with the people she once considered family, she proves she is far from the Angel they raised her to be.

New Release + 5 Star Review ☆ Three-Sixty: A Full Circle Duet Part #2 by Teri Kay

Please know that the first in this series One-Eighty needs to be read first. You definitely will want to read it anyways. Plus the cover is amazing.
At the end of One-Eighty, Teri Kay left us hanging. We met and fell in love with Connor and Daniella. Two single parents trying the dating world again. Their life is their kids and that seems to be it. But when their kids are in the same class and good friends, a friendship turned into more. But lying in the background waiting to pounce are Connor’s ex wife who has decided that having an affair with her secretary was not her best choice. She wants Connor to try again. But then there is Nic, Connor’s best friend who rebuffed his feelings before she got married. Now she wants to give it a try with Connor after her failed marriage. But Connor is not onboard with either of them. He has found Daniella and will do what he needs to to win her back. In Daniella’s eyes, she can’t compare to the other two women. She’s curvy and not feeling like she can add up to the other two. Her emotions are still on the fringe after the death of her husband and doesn’t want to be hurt again. She needs to decide to fight for the man she loves or cut her losses. Connor is there to help her with her decision.
What makes Teri Kay’s Duet series so good is her main characters. Connor is not your typical book boyfriend. He has a “dad body”, isn’t a millionaire, and has an occasional smoke. I will tell you this. I would take Connor Evans over any other book boyfriend. He is written as one of the nicest guys you will meet and knows who he is. I love absolutely everything about him. I like reading about “real” couples who are not perfect. Connor and Daniella have been written just like that. They get past their insecurities and find each other and the love they both want. Teri Kay, keep writing your characters like this. You have a way of making the ordinary extraordinary. Thank you.

Synopsis

Just when you think the dust is about to settle, the whirlwind of life picks you up and throws you into another hurricane of one-eighties. Daniella Kahele thought her life of one-eighties was beginning to settle after she met Connor Evans. It was like the stars aligned and the world kept throwing them together. He might just be the one to break down the walls she had built after the death of her husband. Just as she opens her heart again, Connor’s regretful ex-wife and jealous best friend decide they aren’t ready to let him go just yet. A storm of envious past love no one saw coming threatens to destroy everything and it’s a storm that neither Connor nor Daniella are prepared to weather. As Daniella spreads her wings, Connor sees the competition for her heart is real and that he may not be able to let her go. Can two lives full of one-eighties come together in a three-sixty to form a full circle?

4 Star Review ☆ But First, Coffee (Love & Coffee Book 1) by Sarah Darlington

Reviewed by Jacqui

Already a fan of Sarah Darlington, I was excited to read the book. Once I started I had mixed feelings about it. At first I was expecting more of a rom-com based on the main characters names, Lana Bitterman and Joe Coffee. But it ended up being a little more serious than I expected.

Lana Bitterman, CEO of a coffee company and wearer of white pant suits. Wanting to expand her business, she seeks help from one of her stores best baristas, Joe Coffee. When she first meets him, the drop dead gorgeous barista is telling a story of spilling coffee on the white pant suit customer aka the boss. An awkward meeting later and Joe is helping her plan out her new store.

Joe Coffee is not who he seems. Yes, he makes a mean cup of coffee but his past is not what you would expect. Joe has been to law school, has ADHD, fell into drugs and alcohol addiction, lives a meager life and has trouble with intimacy and relationships, something that started after a blackout time in his life. A brother who will do anything to protect his younger sister Kitty, Joe is blackmailed into helping out a competitor and ex friend of Lana, who wants something from Lana. When the sparks fly between Joe and Lana, Joe knows what he needs to do. Help the woman he is falling in love with.

The plot and ending were not what I expected. It seemed too simple and easy and not much of a fight between Lana and her ex-friend Doug who has been blackmailing Joe. Although Joe and Lana get through their respective relationship problems and ended with a HEA, Doug is the big mystery as is Kitty. What will Sarah Darlington bring us with these two? I for one can’t wait. Thank you Sarah Darlington for bringing us Coffee.

Synopsis

Ready to expand her coffee empire, Lana Bitterman does what any smart and fierce CEO would do— she decides to promote the highest selling barista in her company. Joe Coffee. But Joe Coffee isn’t just a handsome barista with a great name. He also inexplicably has an engineering degree from MIT and an almost-degree from Harvard Law.
The more Lana researches Joe, the deeper into his past she falls. And from the moment he walks into her office, she knows she wants him.

Not just as an employee.

As more.

But little does she know, Joe has more secrets than a few unexplained degrees. He’s there because he was sent there.

I would highly recommend reading Mid Life Crisis before jumping into this book.
First off, the cover. Damn! When the cover fits perfectly for the story and main character, you know the book is going to be amazing. LB Dunbar has brought us another book for the over 40 crowd. Let me just say, a man with silver hair can knock your socks off.
Brut and Lily have been sidestepping each other for 22 years when Lily had her heart broken by Brut. Now they find themselves at the same beach house for a week long vacation. Instead of trying to avoid each other, they decide to give into the week of being together and see what happens. What they discover is that the attraction is still there. So begins what should have happened years ago. All thanks to Brut’s brother Hank who set Brut and Lily up.
These two have incredible chemistry thanks to LB Dunbar. I love the fact that once again she has written a story where the characters are older and have lived the life they wanted and are doing what they have set out to do. They are beautifully written and it was very easy to get lost in their story.
Once again LB Dunbar, thank you for incredible storytelling and showing us that life over 40 can still be a lot fun.
