Author Spotlight + Excerpt ☆ Julie’s Ascent (The Reluctant Succubus Book 1) by Emily Walker
When Julie Monroe ends up in Hell, she has no idea why she’s there.
The things does know are: she’s dead, she’s transparent, and she’s been given a second chance.
Given the opportunity to return to Earth as a Succubus, she take the chance to get out of Hell–but she isn’t too keen on sucking souls for the Underworld. To make things even more complicated, she has a huge crush on her mentor, Asa. He’s been in the business of the Succubae for hundreds of years, and Julie can’t help but feel drawn to him.
Convinced she can escape, Julie thinks she can run and hide. But, as she discovers different dimensions of Hell on Earth, she begins to realize that maybe there isn’t a way to escape her fate.
I wake up bathed in light. I uncurl myself from the fetal position and try to remember where I am. The dream comes back to me. It was trying to tell me something. How I died, maybe? I am not alone. Someone is watching me. Blinking to clear my vision, I find myself looking into a pair of golden eyes. There’s a man with me and he is beautiful. There is no other way to describe him. He has a perfectly chiseled face with long dark hair and a perfect pale pink mouth. Draped in thick black lashes, his gold eyes are intense and beautiful. He’s not wearing a shirt, and I can see that he is quite a specimen. “Are you an angel?” I sit up quickly and back against the wall to await his answer. His beautiful laughter fills the room and flames erupt around me again. I feel the heat of the air and remember I’m in Hell. Now I know why he is laughing. “I am the complete opposite of an angel. Thanks for the comedic relief. My name is Asa, I’m your mentor.” He extends his hand to me; it is perfect like the rest of him.
