EXCERPT

Clearing the maze, the sight before her left her breathless. It was the most beautiful fountain she had ever seen. They slowed their steps as they approached.
“It’s Forever Fountain. Legend tells that it was built by the owner of the mansion when his lady love was lost at sea during a hurricane. Some say that he can still be seen some nights wandering the shore looking for her. When she left to visit a sick relative, he told her that he would be here waiting for her. He built the fountain after her death and said he would wait forever.”
“It’s so sad, yet so amazing.” Cassie dropped his hand and circled the fountain. Her fingertips traced the warm marble as she studied the figures and carvings decorating the structure. Water cascaded out in different places into the base below. A maiden held a vase that poured water and another was of a fish spouting from its mouth. “It’s like something out of a movie or some villa in Italy. It’s incredible.” Her footsteps had taken her all around the fountain to stop in front of Niko.
“The only thing I see that is amazing and incredible is standing right in front of me,” he whispered. His voice was deep and raspy.
Cassie swallowed the lump in her throat. She couldn’t breathe, the adoration in his eyes made her heart ache but in a good way. He truly cared for her and she could see it in his gaze. Those gorgeous brown beauties shone a liquid bronze in the moonlight.
He pulled her close. “I don’t know where this is going. I never expected to find someone on this trip that I am growing to care about but I do know I want to be with you.” Niko caressed her cheek with his thumb and then settled his palm on her neck. His thumb rested where her pulse beat a hundred times a minute. “Spend the night with me Cassie.” It wasn’t a question, it was a plea. He wanted her. The man was drop dead handsome, funny, smart, and he wanted her.
She absorbed what he said. She didn’t want a one night stand either. It may have been what she thought she wanted at first, but after meeting Avis, that plan was tossed out the window like a dead fly. No, she coveted the full package. The happy ever after ending to her story. The picket fence. The whole nine yards.
There was no guarantee this relationship would last. Heck, she still didn’t even know where he lived. Out of a suitcase, he said. A whirlwind of conflicting thoughts swirled in her head but she didn’t care. Life had no easy answers, no sure bets.
Taking a deep breath, she answered. “Yes, I will.”
