The Evolution of Us  Dee Kelly

The last we read from Dee Kelly had most of us an emotional wreck. But no matter, I wouldn’t give up the chance to read her next work of art. The Evolution of Us is a story of never giving up on the one you truly love. Your true soulmate. The one who got away because you made a mistake. A mistake to own up to.

The story evolves around the relationship between Declan and Holly. As every great story, these two have their faithful sidekicks, Baxter and Sage who will make you laugh and wish they would each get Their own story. Altogether since they were fourteen, Declan and Holly seem like the perfect couple who are going to make their relationship into a fairy tale. The perfect life. That is until a comment overheard tears their perfect world apart. Now, two years later and neighbors, Declan will do what he can to win Holly’s heart again. He’s done everything to make her jealous, a revolving door of women, now it’s time to show her his heart is all in. Holly needs to open her heart and let out the secret that started all this.

I devoured this book as I do with any of Dee Kelly’s books. Fortunately this one didn’t leave me a blubbering mess but instead told a POV story of trying to take a wrong and make it a right. Declan feels more real to me. I for one am glad he is not the domineering alpha male but a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. A guy who can admit he made a mistake and jumped to conclusions. A guy madly in love with his one true love. I liked going back and forth between then and now. Watching their relationship evolve from gangly teenagers to mature adults and everything in between. It’s a definite love story that is on my top ten list. Dee Kelly, thank you for giving me happy tears this time and bringing us along for this incredible story.

Synopsis

They say most people meet the person they will marry while in high school. Balancing one another perfectly, Holly Ryan and Declan James were together through most of college—until their relationship blew up, leaving Declan with more questions than answers.

For the past two years, Declan has tried everything he can think of to earn Holly’s forgiveness, but even if he manages to help her let go of the past and give them another chance at happiness, she still has a secret. Not to mention, she can’t get over the revolving door of women he seems to have coming in and out of his apartment.

Declan is desperate to prove to Holly she’s the one for him and isn’t above using his celebrity status or enlisting the help of their friends to win her back.
All’s fair in love and war, right?
